LONGSHANKS AND TALESMAN ~ Cricklade: Saxon Frontier Town 4.5 miles / 5 hrs On the Thames Path National Trail. A town with fortifications built by a Saxon king and wrecked by a Viking king. L&T will introduce you to both, and reconstruct the mighty walls, as you are taken back to the Dark Ages. Then along the river bank we will pass through a rich meadow with rare flora, the site of the Roman Port for Corinium (Cirencester), and forgotten canals and railways.
